When traveling in a new setting, there is so much to take in. Culture, people, architecture, scenery …. It’s so easy to reach overload, and just begin to shut down after absorbing the first round or two of new inputs.

It can be helpful to wander with a pre-determined focus. Look around for a while through a particular lens. For instance, wandering the streets in a town or city - with an eye out for architectural details - can yield a bountiful harvest. Anything from doors and windows to rooflines and water spouts - right down to faded and peeling paint on the walls - can yield a memorable image that carries with it the soul of a location.

Antigua is a colorful, intriguing, colonial city with an old quarter one could wander in for hours. For centuries the economic, political, and religious heart of Spanish Central America and the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala (spanning all or parts of 7 countries today), Antigua oozes history.

A handful of images from its cobbled streets tell a hundred stories.
